California Guard Card

New Security Officers: The Guard Card is the basic security license issued by the California Bureau of Security & Investigative Services. Guard Card training is the first step new guards must complete in order to submit their application to the State of California. While Guard Card license allows applicants to work as an unarmed security officer, it does not include specialized training for any specific assignment or weapons of any kind.


The first 8 hours (Powers to Arrest & Use of Force) must be completed in person, in a classroom setting, with an instructor physically present, at an authorized training facility. AEGIS does not currently offer live initial Powers to Arrest & Use of Force. This program is intended to complete Mandatory Core and Elective Courses as well as provide a Powers to Arrest & Use of Force Refresher.

Step 1: After completing LIVE Powers to Arrest & Use of Force training, all Californa Guard Card applicants are required to:
  • Obtain a Live Scan DOJ/FBI background check by a certified Live Scan operator : https://oag.ca.gov/fingerprints/locations
  • Apply for California Bureau of Security and Investigations Guard Card Online: https://www.bsis.ca.gov/licenses.shtml
  • Pay the BSIS registration fees online
  • Skip Step 2 & 3 and take a discounted 32 hour training bundle below
Step 2: All Security Officers are required to complete an additional 16 hours of MANDATORY Core Training Courses within the first 30 days. This bundle includes:
  • Public Relations
  • Observation & Documentation
  • Communication and its Significance
  • Liability / Legal Aspects
  • FREE BONUS: First Aid/CPR/Stop the Bleed Review
Step 3: All Security Officers are required to complete an additional 16 hours of MANDATORY Elective Training Courses within 180 days. Our bundle includes:
