Before July 1, 2023, the first 8 hours (Powers to Arrest & Weapons of Mass Destruction) are available online.

After July 1, 2023, the first 8 hours (Powers to Arrest & Use of Force) must be completed in person at an authorized training facility.

This Guard Card Refresher course includes 16 modules totaling 8 hours of training. It offers California security guards a comprehensive review of both Powers to Arrest (PTA) procedures and vital topics related to Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and terrorism awareness. Participants will study, internalize, and fully understand essential legal frameworks, reporting protocols, and field procedures necessary to meet BSIS refresher training standards.
