Right to Safe Schools

This module explores California’s legal guarantee of safe schools, focusing on how Article I, Section 28 of the state constitution establishes the right to safety for students and staff. 

Through practical examples and real-world context, students will examine the shared responsibility for school safety and the frontline role of security officers in protecting learning environments. 

This module covers the following topics: 

• What is the California Constitution 
•  Article I, Section 28(c) & (7) 
•  Who is responsible for safety (everyone) 
•  Who provides a front line deterrence against crime (security) 
  
   Students will gain a clear understanding of how constitutional rights shape day-to-day practices and why their presence as security officers is vital to ensuring a safe, supportive school atmosphere.
