Crime Scenes

Crime scenes can develop from a wide range of incidents, including theft, vandalism, assaults, medical emergencies, suspicious activity, or major violent events. Security guards are often among the first individuals to arrive on scene, making their actions critical to preserving evidence, protecting people, and supporting law enforcement investigations.

Improper handling of a scene can compromise evidence, create legal liability, and negatively impact investigations.

This module provides students with practical knowledge and procedural guidance for securing and managing crime scenes in educational environments and other professional security settings. Students will learn how to recognize different types of crime scenes, preserve evidence properly, maintain professionalism under pressure, and understand the legal and ethical responsibilities involved in incident response.

Topics covered in this module include:

  •  Types of Crime Scenes
  • Evidence Preservation
  • The Role of a Security Guard at a Crime Scene
  • Legal and Ethical Considerations

Security guards will develop the confidence and awareness needed to respond appropriately to crime scenes while protecting evidence, maintaining safety, and supporting investigative processes in accordance with professional security standards and applicable U.S. guidelines.
